Gerhard Domagk      My idol-physician researcher is Gerhard Johannes Paul Domagk, a German pathologist  and b acteriologist . He received the 1939 Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine  for his discovery of Sulfonamidochrysoidine (KI-730), the first commercially available antibiotic  and marketed under the brand name Prontosil.             His discovery treated his own daughter, saving her the amputation  of an arm. He w as arrested by the Gestapo  and detained for a week because he was forced by the Nazi  regime to refuse the prize. He wasn’t after the recognition and prestige as he continued to pursue his career as physician and researcher. In 1941 Domagk was awarded the  Medaglia Paterno  (Rome) by the Kingdom of Italy  and also the Von-Klebelsberg-Medal and Prize by the Kingdom of Hungary . He became a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leo...
